Liberty was rescued from a situation so harrowing that we cannot discuss it. Yet, she is dear and loving with special gifts to capture a person's heart. Dearest Thanks to those who told us about her, kept her safe and brought her to us. For their safety we will not mention their names, but their deeds of caring, involvement and wanting a better life for Liberty will always whisper their names. To these  anonymous hearts we thank you dearly along with Liberty who is enjoying her new foster family completely.

Liberty is a 5 year old female merle dane with cropped ears. She is potty trained and gets along well with all kinds of people. She loves people. She takes a while to decide she likes other dogs, though. She does okay with them after she gets to know them. Not a huge fan of rough play or team play. She mostly enjoys quiet moments and cuddling.

She prefers people to other pets.

Liberty is untested with cats so far. She would not be a good choice with children under 5 since she, unlike most adult danes, is unaware of her size and will knock over small people without knowing she is. She is in foster care with school age children and doing very well. So children who understand and can handle being bumped will do well with Liberty. As a rule children over the age of 5 can understand this and accept a few more bumps that children under 5. Each family is different, we know that. Liberty has not been tested with small breed dogs of any sex.  She does well with mix breed puppies it seems ( she is pictured with them in the link below) and she currently is doing well with male boxers in her foster home and she was with both male and female medium to large dogs before entering rescue. As a general rule HGDR does a compatibility meeting with all pets in a household before placement, but it would be especially helpful for those who have cats or small breed dogs. Liberty knows basic commands, sit, lay down, off, stay. She is Heartworm negative and has a clean bill of health from a vet as well as having been vaccinated. She is very good with strangers in social settings. She has been camping this summer and got on nicely with new people and enjoyed all the attention.  Liberty is easy going despite her past horrors. She is ready to start a new beginning with a family who appreciates the simple things, like she does.
